Build Your Audience and Boost Your Profits
Well I just returned from 3 days at the annual Podcast and New Media Expo (PNME), and my head is still swimming from some of the truly amazing stuff I saw.
Yes – all these new audio and video capabilities can be a cornerstone and turning point for your business.
But beware! Misplaced gadget love can have you spinning your wheels with a lighter wallet and little else to show for it.
How you use what’s new is much more important than throwing your dollars at what’s bright and shiny.
So, as your intrepid product revenue ambassador, I’m revealing The Five Crucial Emerging Audio and Video Trends that can help you boost your profits and more fully leverage your content.
These breaking techniques can help you get a jump on your competition:
- Instant Video Content Creation
It was hard to tell if there were more attendees, or folks with cameras interviewing the attendees. With newer, cheaper digital video cameras, all the world is your interview studio. And here is why that’s important:
First, industry leaders love talking about themselves. So generating great content is as easy as finding one, asking great questions and letting them do the work.
Second, gurus who might not talk to you otherwise brighten up when they see your camera.
Yep, your camera gives you a chance to massage their ego and gives them a chance to promote themselves . . . an unbeatable combination!
Plus, it gives you quick and easy content creation. No teleseminar to plan and script, no phone bridges to secure, no emails to send out. Memorize a few questions, point your camera, transfer the video to your computer, and upload to YouTube.
People mistakenly think technology makes things harder. In this case, it makes content creation as easy as point, shoot and upload. - Free live online broadcast platforms
I think I counted four or five separate services to create your own live online audio or video broadcast (with hundreds or even thousands of listeners) without spending a dime. With call-in numbers, Skype capability, and cool web interfaces that allow live text chat, caller mute, and even video (for those of you with webcams).
If you’ve got a hot topic, you can be online and broadcasting in minutes. And because listeners have a variety of ways to tune in (by phone, through their browser or using Skype) your potential audience is massive.
Next week, in our follow up post, we’ll name names and delve a bit deeper. - Facebook (The Out of Nowhere Award)
Scarcely a year ago, Facebook was the online destination where college students could exchange photos. Now it’s the hottest social networking site around, with more and more businesses and even huge venture capital startups putting Facebook exposure in their business plan.
MySpace is sooooo 2006. Facebook is growing by leaps and bounds. And if I had a dime for every time a presenter said, “Your business HAS TO BE ON FACEBOOK”, I’d be relaxing in my second (or third) vacation home right about now. - Monetization (The Underground Rumble Award)
Its about time! The 1200 pound gorilla in all presentations seemed to be, “So how can we make money from this stuff?” The coolness of having your own Podcast – audio or video – pales when you can’t pay the rent.
So there was a quiet groundswell of interest in ways to build your audience and then connect that audience to your products and services.
In the near future, look for the hottest podcast applications not to be gadgets but methods to squeeze dollars out of audio and video content. - Ad Placement
Also fresh on the scene were additional services that would host your video podcast for free in exchange for being able to place an ad somewhere on your video – either a banner over the top, or a tag at the end.
Pioneered by online video portal Revver, there are now a lot of folks getting into the act. And they’ll even share the revenue with you.
While you and your viewers may cringe at the thought of ads on your content, you better get used to it. Someone’s gotta pay for all this free bandwidth, and everyone wants to come up with the video version of Google Ads.
As Promised, in our next story – we’ll get specific, with places you can go to begin checking this stuff out.
