Four Fantastic Finds,
Fresh from the Podcast and New Media Expo
Last week, fresh off 3 days at the annual Podcast and New Media Expo (PNME) we looked at 5 Crucial Audio and Video Trends You Must Know About.
But I know you’re thinking, Rob, trends are great. Give us the specifics!
'Nuf said.
So I’d like to take you a step deeper, looking at four very specific, very powerful resources you can begin to use to start benefiting from these trends, instead of just reading about them.
The good news is most of them are simple to use. And most take you a step beyond simply creating audio and video, by helping you make money from audio and video.
Must See Resource #1: TubeMogul
If you’ve ever uploaded video to the web, you know it takes forever. Video files are large, and high speed web access is only so fast. So you had a choice:
Wait 25 minutes (or more) for your video to upload to each online video site (like YouTube)
Or pay a monthly fee (usually $47 to $97 a month) to have someone distribute your video to many online video sites for you.
Well, TubeMogul may just put those other services out of business. Because when you upload your video once through TubeMogul, they will distribute your video to 12 of the hottest online video sites for you, including YouTube, Yahoo Video, AOL Video, Google Video, Veoh, MySpace, Brightcove and Revver.
And they’ll do it for free!
Not only that, but TubeMogul has some amazing tracking tools to show you when, where and how often your videos are viewed. So you’ll not only be able to increase viewer ship of your online videos, you’ll have the data to increase the return from your videos.
Truly, the find of the show.
Must See Resource #2: Facebook
We mentioned Facebook in our trends post. But I wanted to take a few moments to let you know why it’s the hottest social networking site and is attracting attention from major businesses.
Once a social site for college students, Facebook opened itself to everyone, adding new tools and capabilities. You not only host photos on Facebook, but audio, video, content, PowerPoint presentations, the works. An amazing number of applications are being developed for Facebook. Which means whatever business you’re in, and whatever would help you get the word out most persuasively, there’s a good chance you can do it.
What makes Facebook so special?
According to those already reaping the benefits, it’s the structure. Rather than just having friends, as with other social networking sites, Facebook is organized in communities and interest groups. So its easier to make an impact on folks who might actually want to purchase your services.
One branding consultant I spoke to said an astounding 65% of her business comes from Facebook.
If you’re a solo or small business professional, it’s worth a definite look-see.
Must See Resource #3: Live Show Platforms
It used to be that to get a live online radio (or video) show, you could purchase time from an existing network, which could cost you hundreds a month, or pay even more for an expensive real time streaming service.
But now you have a wide variety of absolutely free online live broadcasting platforms to choose from including NowLive.com, TalkShoe.com,
UStream.tv and UBroadcast.com. The capabilities of these platforms vary, but most provide the bandwidth to stream your show live, and allow listeners / viewers to chime in on the phone, through their web browser, through Skype or live online chat.
A few will even record your show for you and make it available for you to download or podcast.
Its repurposing your content to the nth degree: live, podcast and downloadable MP3.
A warning: many will also place ads along with your show. But hey, Google is plastered with ads, and it hasn’t seemed to hurt them.
Must See Resource #4: Everyzing.com
The problem with audio and video is that, except for your keywords and descriptions, they’re invisible to search engines.
That all is beginning to change with Everyzing.
Everyzing can best be described as an audio and video search engine that makes your media visible to search. Here is how it works:
Submit your video or audio podcast and their software transcribes it, so all those juicy keywords you use in your program are now searchable. Better yet, when someone searches for keywords in your media on their site, they keywords are indexed to the exact place in the media where they are spoken.
So lets say, I do a search in Everyzing for Jocko the Clown. It will not only return videos in which the phrase Jocko the Clown is used, but I will be able to click on the Jocko the Clown text and be taken to the exact place in the audio or video where the phrase is spoken.
And while your own voice to text app may have you tearing your hair out, their technology is reportedly 85% accurate. And its only going to get better.
