Avoiding info product overwhelm
In part one of our series, we took dead aim on info product overwhelm, and examined 3 questions that can help clarify WHY you’re creating your products. Which is the first step to putting overwhelm on the run.
But as you know, overwhelm is a stubborn bugger, so we need to put it out of its misery forever.
And to do that we need to know the three primary reasons we invite overwhelm into our lives, and the three things we can do to banish it from our info product production process forever.
Armed with this knowledge, we’ve got the upper hand on creating our auto pilot revenue empire.
We actually create a fertile breeding ground for overwhelm in our lives with three very unconscious actions:
- We don’t have a big enough reason for doing something
- The reason or motivation we do have comes from outside of us, (expectations, old tapes, what some marketing guru said) rather than inside of us.
- We are unwilling to make the space for projects that ARE important to us.
So how do we solve this problem?
- Make sure you’re not hijacking someone else’s vision
A funny thing happens when clients begin getting close to their dream of passive revenue products.
The start scheduling vacations. Or missing their coaching sessions.
While they are very creative in coming up with excuses, there is usually one root cause: creating an autopilot revenue business is simply not important enough to them.
Seems crazy doesn’t it? “Making money while you sleep” is what so many of us dream about. Yet, when this motivation comes from outside instead of deep inside you, anything – fear, busy-ness, or other diversions – will trip you up.
There is often a direct correlation between how successful you are at something and how important it is to you to be successful at it.
STOP selecting your dreams based on what’s on the best seller lists, or what $997 home study course the latest hot guru is hawking. When you devote energy to what is truly important to you, the most amazing thing happens – success. - Make sure you have resources available for success BEFORE YOU BEGIN
A successful real estate investor I knew said, “Hope is not a course of action.” Sure its great to have a positive outlook. But its not enough. Some of my clients that struggle the most are the most positive. Some of my most successful clients have more downs than ups. The key: no matter how crummy they feel, they do what’s necessary to produce results.
Profitable audio products don't happen by themselves. Be sure you have the emotional, financial and scheduling bandwidth (or can create it) to complete your project before you start on it.
Overwhelm is created when we begin a project, only to discover we don’t have the raw materials to finish it. So the steps we take to complete the project can become even more difficult than the project itself. Yikes!
Kinda like starting to cook dinner and then realizing you’ll have to go find a cow to milk to complete the recipe.
Its not rocket science to do this kind of inventory before your project. It requires absolutely zero technical ability. And it can help insure you complete your product so the profits start rolling in. - Prioritize
The biggest reason entrepreneurs are overwhelmed is FAILURE TO PRIORITIZE.
Yes, if you have a bunch of stuff to do, and its all equally important, you’re going to be overwhelmed. I guarantee it.
Your ticket out of this hell is deciding what you MUST do, and what you can let slide. Realize you CAN do what’s important by letting go of what “might be nice”, but simply isn’t worth your time.
The critical realization is you don’t need everything. In fact just a few strategies, successfully implemented can help you make the products, and the financial breakthrough you’re looking for.
Without this willingness to focus on the important few, the crucial, your production attempts will fail. Everything looks equally important. And when its impossible to let the less important slide, you may find your entire effort collapsing.
The ability to let things go, realizing that most of your success comes from nailing just a few crucial activities is the key to dropping info product overwhelm in its tracks.
I know its a bombshell: that techie stuff is NOT the biggest obstacle to creating highly profitable audio and information products. The flip side is the rush that comes from knowing what’s most crucial is ENTIRELY within your grasp, no matter how technophobic you might be.
