Great Audio - Its in the Bag

Technology is tiny
So how the heck do you keep your gadgets
Where you want them – when you want them?

The more I work with audio the more I find the most important tricks don’t seem like fancy techniques at all. In fact, they’re so simple, most will miss them.

But once you know about them, they are absolute lifesavers.

You can file this tip under that category.

But you ignore it at your peril.

Because what I’ve found is that the audio accessory that saves me the most aggravation -- and even money -- is the ziplock bag.

Yup, that’s right – the ziplock bag. The same one you probably have in your kitchen right now. In fact here’s a picture of most of the setup I used to record the speakers for the International Coach Federation Los Angeles Chapter. Including high profile speakers like John Izzo and even Rhonda Britten.

The same bag that keeps your sandwiches fresh for weeks can also keep all of your audio devices and connectors right where you need them WHEN you need them.

Because one of the problems with all this new, low-priced digital recording technology is that so much of it is so tiny. Recorders, clip-on mics, earbud headphones, spare batteries – all are very easy to misplace. (Why do you think the folks that make ’em make so much money?)

Now if you’re recording your full blown 3-day workshop, you’re going to want to hire a professional outfit. And a lot of that equipment is still quite large. But to record simple one-hour presentations, the small stuff will do quite nicely.

In fact, the digital recorder I use to record some of my live presentations is about one-third the size of my wallet. Which makes it very easy to take along, very easy to operate . . .

And very easy to LOSE.

And since it would run about $120 to replace, that could get very expensive.

Enter the humble ziplock bag.

I simply place my entire remote recording apparatus – recorder, clip-on mic, earbud headphones, spare batteries, and any adapters or cords I might need to hook it into a sound system in my ziplock. It keeps all these items together. It makes it very easy to take along with me. It makes each of these items very easy to find. And much more difficult to lose.

Enough ziplocks to last you your entire audio career might cost you $5. But could save you hundreds of dollars and a ton of aggravation.

So when its time to get started with audio, make this small investment. It may not be stylish. But the time, money and hassle it saves you will make you feel like a million.
